If you have already suffered from the effects of a kidney stone, you will be well aware of how painful it can be.

But what is a kidney stone – and how does it form?

Firstly, what do our kidneys do?

Your kidneys are bean-shaped organs, each about the size of a small fist, located near the middle of your back, just below the rib cage. They act as very efficient trash collectors. Your kidneys process around 200 quarts of blood each day and sift out about 2 quarts of waste products and extra water. This waste and extra water become urine, which flows to your bladder through tubes called ureters. Your bladder stores urine until you go to the bathroom where you excrete it through your urethra.

The wastes cleaned from your blood by your kidneys come from the normal breakdown of active muscle movement and from the food you eat. Your body uses the food for energy and self-repair. After your body has taken what it needs from the food for energy and self-repair, the waste products are sent to the blood. If these wastes were not removed by your kidneys, the wastes would build up in the blood and begin to seriously damage your body. Other functions of your kidneys include helping to control blood pressure and to make red blood cells.

What then is a Kidney Stone?

It is a solid piece of material that may form in the kidney from waste substances in the urine.

A kidney stone, once formed, may stay in the kidney or travel down the urinary tract. A small kidney stone may pass all of the way out of the body causing very little pain, or even no pain at all.

A larger stone may become stuck in a ureter, in the bladder, or in the urethra.[which is the tube leading from the bladder which allows you to unrinate]. A problem kindey stone can block the flow of urine and cause great pain.

The four major types of kidney stones:

?	the most common type of kidney stone contains calcium. While calcium is a normal, and very necessary, part of a healthy diet the calcium that is not used by the bones and muscles goes as a waste product to the kidneys. Most of the time, the kidneys flush out this extra calcium in the urine. However at times, some calcium remains in the kidneys and eventually joins with other waste products to form a stone;

?	struvite stones may form after an infection in the urinary system. These stones contain the mineral magnesium, which may have come from your diet, and the waste product ammonia which has resulted from your body processes;

?	uric acid stones may result if there is too much acid in your urine. If you tend to form uric acid stones, you may need to reduce the amount of meat you eat.;

?	cystine stones are rare. Cystine is one of the building blocks that make up muscles, nerves, and other parts of the body. Cystine can build up in the urine to form a stone. The disease that causes cystine kidney stones is genetically based, that is, it runs in families.

WC FIELDS –“Horse sense is the thing a horse has which keeps it from betting on people.”

WCLEMENT STONE –“There is little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative.”

WENDELL BERRY –“Energy is superhuman in the sense that humans cannot create it. They can only refine or convert it. And they are bound to it by one of the paradoxes of religion: they cannot have it except by losing it; they cannot use it except by destroying it…”

WENDELL BERRY –“Men may dam it and say that they have made a lake, but it will still be a river. It will keep its nature and bide its time, like a caged animal alert for the slightest opening. In time, it will have its way; the dam, like the ancient cliffs, will be carried away piecemeal in the currents.”

WENDELL BERRY –“We are far more concerned about the desecration of the flag than we are about the desecration of our land.”

WENDELL PHILIPS –“Difference religion breeds more quarrels than difference of polities.”

WENDELL PHILLIPS- “Difference of religion breads more quarrels than difference of politics.”

WERNER VON BRAUN –“Use the word “impossible” with the greatest caution.”

WH AUDEN –“We are here on Earth to do good to others. What the others are here for; I don’t know.”

WH AUDEN –“We must love one another or die.”

WHITE –“In antiquity, every tree, every spring, every stream, every hill had its own genius loci, its guardian spirit… Before one cut a tree, mined a mountain, or a brook, it was important to placate the spirit in charge of that particular situation, and to keep it placated. By destroying animism, we have only ended up exploiting nature in a mood of indifference to the feelings of natural objects.”

WHITE HOUSE –“The sound of the Shafer heralds the beginning of a new year and a time of remembrance and renewal for the Jewish people. During these holy days, men and women are called to reflect on their faith and to honour the blessings of creation.”

WIKIPAEDIA –“Researchers reason that all living humans descend from Africans, some of whom migrated out of Africa and populated the rest of the world. If the mitochondrial analysis is correct, then because mitochondrial Eve represents the root of the mitochondrial family tree, she must have predated the exodus and lived in Africa. Therefore many researchers take the mitochondrial evidence as support for the “single-origin” or Out-of-Africa model.”

WIKIPAEDIA –“As Mahalakshmi, the supreme Goddess of Love and Delight, she lends grace and charms everything divine or human. As Mahasaraswati, the Goddess of Divine skill and Knowledge, she is the firefighter and trouble-shooter for the entire universe.”

While, Brahmn has only to be cognised, Parashakti can be worshipped with name and form. She is Divine Will personified. She isconscious power beyond everything. She is the invisible and constant presence that sustains the world, linking form and name, holding them in interdependence. There is nothing impossible for Her She is the Universal Goddess.
WIKIPAEDIA –“The real purpose of the Paryushan is to purify our soul by staying closer to our own soul, to look at our faults, to ask for forgiveness for the mistakes we have committed, and take vows to minimise our faults. We try to forget about the needs of our body and our business so that we can concentrate on our-self. Swetambers celebrate eight days of Paryushan and the last day is called Samvastsari. In these eight days most of Jains keep fast in many ways and all Jains keep fast on Last day of Paryushan. The process of shedding our KARMAS really begins by asking for forgiveness with true feelings and to vow not to repeat mistakes. The quality of the forgiveness requires humility and suppression of anger.”

WILLIAM BLACK- “A truth that’s told with bad intent, beats all the lies you can invent.”

WILLIAM BLAKE –“A dog starv’d at the master’s gate/ Predicts the ruin of the State./ A horse misus’d upon the road/ Calls to heaven for human blood./ Each outcry of the hunted hare/ A fibre from the brain does tear,/ A skylark wounded on the wing,/ A cherubim does cease to sing.”

If one fully understands the present moment, there will be nothing else to do, and nothing else to pursue. Live being true to the single purpose of the moment. Everyone lets the present moment slip by then looks for it as though he thought it were somewhere else. No one seems to have noticed this fact. But grasping this firmly one must pile experience upon experience. And once one has come to this understanding he will be a different person from that point on, though he may not always bear it in mind. When one understands this settling into single- mindedness well, his affairs will thin out.”

Rocker Tim Young is a veteran to the New York music scene. Influenced over the years by artists of all styles from Marvin Gaye to Jefferson Airplane to Elvis Presley, Young has been writing music for nearly two decades now. He started releasing albums in 2002 with No Stranger, a collection of nine original instrumentals that were self-produced and recorded at his home studio. His 2005 album, Red, was his debut as a singer/songwriter, and now in 2008 he has released his newest album, The Cost, that is a straight up rock ‘n roll record. MusicDish had the chance to speak with Tim in this exclusive interview about his new album, his influences, his future and other related topics.

[MusicDish] When did you begin creating music, and when did you begin to seriously pursue a music career?

[Tim Young] I was a junior at Mansfield State University in Mansfield, PA. Actually, I had accordion lessons when I was a kid from eleven years to fifteen. But at Mansfield I began to write my own songs. Then I was nineteen. Peter, Paul and Mary were the easy ones to pick up then and everybody loved them.

Once I put my first band together, which was the early 80′s, I became serious about my music. My first band, just for the record, was named Signals. Unfortunately there are no recordings of this music. Or maybe that’s a good thing. I did always think I’ve got a bunch of hits in me.

[MusicDish] What were your earliest musical influences?

[Tim Young] Probably Elvis and Elvis clones like Fabian and Bobby Rydell. There was also this guy Buddy Knox who had this record, ‘Party Doll’, which I loved. The Beatles hit when I was fourteen and that was the heyday of great AM radio which was always on the instant I stepped foot into the family car. After I earned my driver’s license and could drive on my own, I would drive as fast as the music would take me and turn it way up. I remember Tommy James’s ‘Hanky Panky’ and Arthur Connolly’s ‘Sweet Soul Music’ being particularly great to drive fast to.

[MusicDish] Do you find that songwriting or lyric writing comes most naturally to you?

[Tim Young] I think they both come naturally to me but both are difficult to get right. I began writing some poetry in high school but I didn’t play guitar then. However, I was encouraged by a few fellow students to go on with my writing. I guess melodies did come kind of easy for me once I had mastered a few chords. It was and still is so fascinating to see and hear the words take on a new life in the context of the music. Plus I had memorized every lyric and melody nuance to every Beatles song that was released. I poured that stuff into my head. I know that helped me in many ways.

The late 60′s and early 70′s brought the counterculture to a head. I mean there was a lot in the air then that one could take to support the habit of writing music and putting words to it. It seemed there was always something that needed to be said. And for me the longer I kept writing the better I became.

[MusicDish] What music do you currently listen to?

[Tim Young] Mostly my own stuff. When I’ve completed a new project I get so much satisfaction in hearing it. It’s like food. I need it to sustain myself. I also listen to artists I find on MySpace and other places I stumble onto on the web. I should probably branch out more with my listening but mostly I’m just disappointed. However, right now I am also pretty hot on Patti Smith after just seeing the brand new doc on her life, which was an excellent film.

[MusicDish] As I listen to ‘The Cost,’ I am clearly reminded of the twangy blues of Elvis, combined with the overwhelming vibe of heartbreak, mastered by Johnny Cash. Would you consider your music to be modeled after them?

[Tim Young] Not consciously. But Johnny Cash is someone I look up to because he was more of a writer than Elvis, and in the past few years before his death, Cash was really reborn again. It’s no secret. Just listen to those last few albums. Stellar performances, in my opinion. And even though he did cover a lot of songs, if you didn’t know you would probably think that Johnny wrote them. That’s the kind of artist I can aspire to. It seems to me that his music was not a part of his life but was his life and in that respect I guess you could say I have modeled myself after Johnny Cash. I also dig the wearing of the black.

[MusicDish] What do you feel is the overall message of your album? Do the themes of pain and loss correspond with personal experiences, and do you feel that the album can serve as therapy for those who also experience similar situations?

[Tim Young] I don’t know if there is a message, but it seems to me as the good stuff and bad stuff comes along it’s better to deal with it somehow rather than sweeping it under the rug. If you lose someone dear to you then howl about it. When things get ugly, move away from them. The individual is responsible for him(her)self. It’s too easy to blame somebody else. When things are great, celebrate. It’s so much more wise, I think, to roll with the punches. Have fun. Not having fun? Get drunk.

I’d have to say that almost all my songs are pretty personal. They all trigger a personal response in me that no one else would know about. I think that happens to everyone – an individual response that lives in the mind. On the other hand, there can be a more shared response between people and that’s what makes a song resonate and become popular. The sharing of the emotions the music allows to come through. There is real power in those kinds of emotional reactions.

I’m certainly no therapist, but I know from experience that the right song at the right moment is capable of lifting spirits and/or putting you in a mood that may somehow alleviate or bring into focus whatever situation one might be going through. I can say without any hesitation or trepidation that this record, ‘The Cost’, makes me feel great, and a big part of that reason is I think it touches on a lot of shared inner emotions.

[MusicDish] Which track is the most meaningful to you? And which do you think will be your biggest hit?

[Tim Young] I go back and forth on this but today I’d have to say the title track, ‘The Cost’, is the most meaningful. I could not have written this song without the amazing relationship I share with my girlfriend. ‘The Cost’ is the worst case scenario. What if things all fell apart? Disaster. I would never want to face that, but what if? Nobody knows.

If ‘The Cost’ was to be the biggest hit… Wow. I could see that. (I think the sleeper hit could be ‘Wishing.’)

[MusicDish] On ‘Drifting Cowboy,’ can you offer some insight as to whether the cowboy is a fictional character, or if he is autobiographical at all?

[Tim Young] I suppose a combination. That word ‘cowboy’ pops up in my songs sometimes. I dig that word because it represents freedom to me. Someone with no ties; whose only possessions are a horse and whatever is in the saddle bags – the ability to just split without notice. Maybe because I’m a city dweller part of me yearns for the openness of what the West used to be – what it meant to head West.

I took the title from the name of Hank Williams’ band, The Drifting Cowboys. By the way, the details listed in the song are facts about Hank: born in Alabama, quit school in Montgomery, played in bars and on the radio, made it big in Nashville.

[MusicDish] How do you feel about the current state of the music industry? Do today’s artists compare with the legends of the past, like Elvis or Johnny? Do you have hope for the future generations of American music?

[Tim Young] I think generally the industry is healthy because there are more artists than ever working and creating new music. I believe the consensus is that the internet has leveled the playing field some. The major labels no longer have the stranglehold on the business they used to.

I still think it’s very difficult to have people pay attention to new artists and part of this is because there are more artists than ever and it’s very difficult to get through most of the muck to find something of value. This has probably always been true, but with the internet it has become so much more obvious.

Great artists are rare. I know there are some out there but I don’t want to be told who they are. Supposedly greatness rises to the surface and if that’s true then I’ll see them when they appear. Today it’s too much of what I call the ‘toothpaste effect’: one brand today, a different brand tomorrow. The music doesn’t stick; it just washes down the drain. Spit out.

Hope doesn’t cost a dime.

[MusicDish] What is the next step in your music career going to be? What can fans expect?

[Tim Young] More music! I’ve never done any kind of major touring and I would like to do that. I want to put out one album a year. Right now I’m in the middle of writing songs for the next record. I want ‘The Cost’ to make a difference in my career so that I can accomplish some of these goals more easily.

My fans can always expect the kind of emotional no holds barred shows that I always deliver, and new songs and ideas are always a part of that. Performing is a high priority.

[MusicDish] Can you speak a bit about your current performance schedule? Where can fans see you live?

[Tim Young] This is an area I need to improve. I don’t have a satisfactory performance line up. Right now I have a solo gig at the Vintage Bar, which is located on the corner of 51st Street and 9th Avenue. I perform there once a month, in about the middle of the month. The dates always change but I always post them on my site and on MySpace. Vintage is a great intimate setting and I love playing there.

My band, which is a duo, with Sand Edwards on drums, is on the lookout for gigs. I wear a lot of hats running this project and sometimes the booking agent hat has a tendency to fall off, but like all the others I pick it right up again.

Constant headache is a headache which generally arises out of tension, from any type of stress, changes in temperature or weather, lack of enough rest, or by eating the types of food to which you are allergic. It is very common in nature and nearly everybody suffers it. This headache causes pain in your head and makes your neck and back muscles tighten. That’s why people are so afraid of constant headache.

What You Need To Know About Constant Headaches

Some of the symptoms of a constant headache include pain and tension in your neck, back and head, as well as emotional fluctuations. Whenever a person has this headache, he loses his temperament very easily and feels exhausted and enervated. If he tries to work with a constant headache, he probably finds difficulty in concentrating and doing his job.

Usually, a tension headache develops more gradually than a migraine headache.

However, a person having constant headache may feel it for weeks or may last for years. Usually he feels pain throughout the entire day without a break. Of course, the intensity of his headache may vary from hour to hour. These headaches usually begin once a person hits middle age. The ailment is more common in women than men.

If you have a constant headache and it is affecting your normal life, then you need to consult doctor. Many a times it is seen that people indulge in self medication, which is very dangerous. You might take overdose to alleviate your pain and even then, you won’t able to get relief from it. In addition, you should call doctor immediately if your headache begins suddenly with severity and causes you to feel weak, numb or dizzy as well.

Quick reliefs remedy an ice pack on your head and neck, taking a hot shower, or getting some rest works wonders.

A longer drive off the tee is something every golfer desires. Adding 10 or 20 or even more yards to your tee-shot can dramatically shave strokes off of your game and that is the focus of this short golf lesson.

Whether you’re playing golf for money as a professional, for bragging rights or just for fun, an extra ten to twenty yards with your driver can vastly improve your ability to score well.

You might be a long hitter already or you might be a player who doesn’t hit it long yet, but you can add at least 10 yards to your drive easily with a simple drill that anyone can learn to practice.

For those of you, who often grab your 3-Wood or use an iron off the tee because you’re afraid of going for the long ball, listen up. I understand your pain! It is extremely frustrating to try and hit a perfect driver only to be deep in the rough to left or the right of the fairway or who-the-heck knows where.

But before you give up on it and convince yourself that real golfers “Drive for show, and putt for dough” listen to what Greg Norman had to say about the subject:

In his book SHARK ATTACK he wrote, “Don’t ever sell me on that line. If you can’t put your tee-shot in play, the smoothest stroke in the world won’t help you enough. To my mind, the most important shot in golf is the drive”.

Alright then, let’s get started. Grab your driver and put on your normal grip.

Now release the last 3 fingers on each hand (for those of you slow learners like me, we’re talking about the pinky, ring and middle finger on each hand). You should now have only the index finger (pointer) and thumb of each hand on the club.

With your left thumb and pointer, start your swing by pushing the left side of the grip back, adding just a bit of shoulder and hip turn.

Notice how the driver head extends naturally back along the target line and the toe of the club is pointing up. Your swing will now be on line and on plane and will automatically give you the right feel and easily add more than 10 yards to your tee shots with greater accuracy.

Keep drilling this until you really get the feel for it. Start slow with the driver and practice with all of your clubs. Keep this slow pace and visualize what it is you are doing.

When done correctly, repeatedly and with focus, your body will remember what to do and you’ll be getting the clubface in proper position time and again.

Make sure to start with your hands and then add your shoulders and hips naturally.

Too much shoulders takes the clubhead back on a shallow plane, that’s why starting the club back with just your index finger and thumb, prevents you from manipulating the club off plane and helps the club extend back on that natural arc we’re all looking for in order to stay on plane.

I just know that if you spend a few minutes working on this you will reap the benefits pretty quickly and start adding 10, 20 or more yards to your driver with greater accuracy.

Thanks for reading, good luck and good golfing.

An infinite array of events that are, impossible to foresee or control affect returns — currency meltdowns, earthquakes, terrorist attacks and 100-year storms (which have a way of occurring every five years!). Logic and rational thinking rarely factor into the mix. As was seen in the dot corn era, a company’s underlying strength, reflected by such variables as profitability, earning prospects and market share, may have far less effect on share price than mindless exuberance.
Your dog could be suffering from a luxated patella or a slipped kneecap. If so, the best thing to do is take him to the vet as soon as you can. Even a slipped kneecap may not seem like a serious health problem to your young dog, it is a progressive disorder and can be debilitating if left untreated.

A friend of mine has been noticing that his dog was limping around the house for about 2 to 3 weeks. After telling me the symptoms, I told him that he should bring his dog to his vet immediately. Three days later, I asked my friend how his dog was doling and he told me that it was fine and he didn’t feel he needed to take him to the vet. Two days later, my friend had no other choice than to bring his dog to the vet. His dog was diagnosed with a slipped kneecap.

Five Common Symptoms Of A Slipped Kneecap

Most symptoms begin to appear when the dog is young between the ages of 6 months to 1 year. However, in some dogs, symptoms can even develop as early as around 8 weeks of age, but remains unnoticed until the dog reaches maturity. Signs include:

?	Problems squatting down.
?	Problems climbing stairs.
?	Intermittent skipping or limping during a routine run.
?	Sluggishness on the leg, especially on the rear, that happens frequently and ends suddenly.
?	Unexpected yelping out in pain while walking or running, usually lasting for 2 to 4 steps.

In more serious cases, the kneecap dislocates more often and lasts a long period. Your dog will show uneasiness and pain, seems bowlegged, and will display a crouching way of walking.

Luxated Patella – Is Your Pet Suffering From This Debilitating Condition?

Luxated patella is categorized in four grades, depending on the severity of the condition:

Grade I: This is when your dog’s kneecap manually dislocates but goes back into place once the pressure is free. This is considered as a mild case with treatment not required. On the other hand, you need to keep a watchful eye on your dog in case the condition gets worse.

Grade II: Your dog’s kneecap dislocates more often, either manually or automatically, when the joint is being flexed and continues to be dislocated until the joint is extended and the leg is twisted into the opposite direction of the dislocation. Considered as middle ground between mild and severe, dogs with grades I and II should be closely monitored in case the condition gets worse.

Grade III: The kneecap dislocates more frequently, whenever the joint is flexed and extended. Dislocation happens when the joint is extended. This is referred to as severe enough for surgery.

Grade IV: The kneecap is permanently dislocated and is unable to be manually be put back into place. This is happens because the groove is too deep or, in some cases, completely missing. At this point, surgery is needed to correct this problem.

Eye lift surgery has been a godsend for many people looking for an answer to rejuvenating the appearance around their eyes. In fact, before it’s considered, many will spend a fortune on products such as “magical creams” which for the most part, are inclined to be a short term fix.

Who Needs Eye Lift Surgery

If you suffer from extra skin on your eye lids then you should consider talking to a specialist about laser eye lift. Puffy eyes or dark circles around the eyes don’t make for an appealing appearance and for those who fall under these categories, it’s a major ritual everyday just performing makeshift work to mask the unsightly appearance presented by these conditions.

I’m not trying to sound too harsh but particularly for people who reach middle age and suffer from tired eyes or appearing to present a tired appearance most of the time, it may be time to investigate this type of surgery.

What Is Eye Lift Surgery?

Basically, the procedure is designed to remove excess skin from around the eyelids. Obviously, people in their twenties wouldn’t normally consider such a procedure but times are changing and the incidence of younger people requesting laser eye lift is on the increase. But that’s another story.

Essentially, once people move into their thirties, age begins to become more noticeable and by middle age, the eyelids thin and begin to relax. Don’t worry, I guess it’s the price you pay for getting older but technology has provided an answer to combat this issue. When someone decides to have the procedure performed, they’re after an eye refresher or a refreshed or rested appearance.

A tiny incision is made inside the eyelid from which fat is drained. The eyes are protected all the time.

Average Cost Of An Eye Lift

Pinpointing an average cost is difficult because price can vary from country to country. Price depends also on whether the procedure is performed under local anesthesia in a surgeon’s office or whether hospilization for a short period may be required.

There are two price ranges to consider and this depends on the level of work required. If your procedure involves a brow lift then costs can range anywhere from $2500-$5000 while an upper eyelid will set you back in the vicinity of $1500-$3000.

Risks Of Eye Lift Surgery

Any surgery brings with it risk; you’ve no doubt heard that a “gazillion” times yet it’s true. However, the procedure is in most cases extremely safe and any reputable surgeon or establishment will usually put you through a rigorous screening process before you qualify.

Pain during the procedure is minimal and if there is any pain associated it’s during the recovery period which can take up to a fortnight. However, this doesn’t mean you’ll be in a hospital bed for that length of time; many patients will continue their lives as normal. Recovery usually means waiting for the bruising and swelling to subside.

Do You Qualify For Eye Lift Surgery?

You’ll need to see a specialist before any decision can be made. Eye lift surgery will make a huge difference to your appearance however, before a surgeoun can perform any sort of procedure on your eyes, he or she will need to determine if you are suitable. This basically means checking your past medical history and establishing whether there are conditions that would make surgery too risky.

Medical science has gone out of its way to promote the idea that degenerative disc disease is some abnormal and harmful condition which typically causes pain and disability in the spines of affected patients. However, DDD is actually a universal and completely expected part of the aging process and is virtually never the actual source of any significant pain or related neurological symptoms.

The actual words “degenerative disc disease” are incredibly frightening and conjure up visions of spinal dysfunction and agonizing misery. Most patients diagnosed with the condition are not given an objective and honest view of the real nature of the spinal changes they have experienced. Instead, many doctors describe in vivid detail how their spines are failing, due to the disintegration of the intervertebral disc structures. Most often, other diagnoses are made in conjunction to DDD, including foraminal stenosis, osteoarthritis, facet joint syndrome or even discogenic pain. These pronouncements, just like DDD, represent typical changes in the spinal anatomy and are certainly not inherently painful unto themselves.

Most degenerative conditions generally begin past middle age and typically continue for life. This is not true for degenerative disc disease, since most people demonstrate considerable degeneration in their lumbar and cervical spines by the age of 30 and many people show these change far younger. I, for one, was diagnosed with advanced DDD in my lumbar spine at the age of 16. The idea that DDD is an actual disease is laughable, since it is not harmful, contagious or unusual to experience during a normal human life. In fact, show me an adult without DDD in their lumbar spine and I will show you an evolutionary anomaly!

If DDD is so innocent and coincidental to the occurrence of back pain, then why is it diagnosed as the source of pain in so many patients? This is an excellent question and a major inspiration for my writing on the subject of chronic pain. Degenerative disc disease, like many other back pain scapegoat conditions, is almost guaranteed to be found in the human spine. It an old standby on which pain can be blamed, simply because doctors know it is there before they even complete any diagnostic testing. Additionally, the fact that most laymen do not understand DDD makes the condition a perfectly acceptable structural abnormality to target as the villain in otherwise idiopathic back pain syndromes.

Blaming DDD for the kinds of serious and life altering pain conditions inherent to chronic lumbar dorsopathy is like blaming gray hair and skin wrinkles for causing cancer. It is a ludicrous notion! How a doctor can pronounce degenerative disc disease as the source of pain, when they themselves demonstrate the condition, just like every other human on this planet, is quite beyond me… That is until you take a long hard look at the profit driven history of the back pain industry and realize how keeping a patient in long term treatment is the real goal of many care providers. There are few cures for common back pain, although there are hundreds of symptomatic therapy options. In order for the money to keep flowing, DDD is used as a scapegoat and nothing more…

It is possible, in extremely rare circumstances, for a person to suffer pain from atypical disc degeneration. This is medical fact and I can not and will not deny it. However, the chances of this are so slim that less than one half of 1% of all positively diagnosed patients fit this criterion. The rest are merely chasing a dream, thinking that they will ever achieve lasting relief from treating DDD. Remember, there is nothing to treat! Therapy options designed to manage degenerative disc disease are generally unsuccessful, due to the simple fact that the diagnosis is incorrect and the pain is actually the result of another physical, or more likely, psychosomatic process.

Degenerative disc disease is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to blaming the epidemic incidence of chronic back pain on a structural spinal causation. The general public has been mislead into thinking that the spine is a fragile and easily damaged structure, when in fact, the spine is a miraculous result of millions of years of targeted evolution. The human spine is actually the reason why we, as a species, have risen above the rest and proven ourselves to be so successful. However, this is no surprise, given the Cartesian philosophy embraced by modern medical science. Doctors look at themselves as engineers of the anatomy, rather than healers who must consider all possible contributors to pain and suffering, including physical, mental, emotional, societal and environmental factors.

In summary, degenerative disc disease is not something to fear. In fact, fear is a major source of back pain and the nocebo influence of a positive DDD diagnosis will only intensify this occurrence. If you have been diagnosed, it is crucial to learn the real facts of the condition in order to put yourself on the right road to back pain recovery or else face being led down the wrong path like a lamb to the slaughter…
